Meriel found one of the best ways to relieve stress is through daily meditation What the heck are they talking about? Eternal peace. Living in the moment. Being present. What? Sounds all like religious hocus-pocus and new age terminology to me. Hey, wait a sec. You're telling me those things really exist. But how can they in this day and age. How can I feel eternal peace when every morning I ride the East Hastings bus to work, passing by the hoards of people who live out of shopping carts, only to rush by newsstands that give me the days headlines about how many people got killed in the most recent terrorist attack or, for that matter, the latest hurricane. Take your pick. And you tell me I can have peace in THIS? Ok. Maybe if I walk around with my ears plugged, refuse to watch the news, not eat or drink anything contaminated with toxins, and avoid the road rage maniacs driving while they pay more attention to their cell phones than the pedestrians in front of them. There's an easier way you say. An effortless, easy way to be at peace even in the face of all of this. Come on. You've got to be kidding. Either that or you work for some big drug company that can sell me some pill that will block it all out by numbing my nervous system. No? You're not a drug company sales rep? Hmmm. Then who are you, promising this simple, easy, effortless way to experience peace without having to seclude myself in a Himalayan cave for the next ten lifetimes? Ishayas. Never heard of them. Who are they? And how can they help me to find peace in the midst of this crazy world. What's that…they are a group of teachers who actually experience peace and joy in their lives all the time, without taking any wild drugs to induce an altered state. Alright, you've got me interested now. What do these teachers teach?...meditation…Well, I've tried that before….this is different…how so?...Oh, you're right, I never have done a meditation where I can do it all day long with my eyes open while I go about my everyday life. You mean I can practice this while I'm riding the East Hastings bus? How great is that? …but what about sitting in some ridiculously difficult posture: how can I do that on the bus?..No specific posture. I'm liking this already…. I can do it while I'm walking through the park, or even while I'm watching a movie. No way….I bet you can't do it while you sitting in those boring board meetings that seem to go nowhere….What? You can…and no one will even know what I'm doing. Hey, now you've got me sold. So how do I learn?... This sounds like it's going to be that something I've been looking for for a long time.
