Meditation Timer? Yea or Nay?
Is it OK to use a meditation timer to signal the end of your session? Yes, if you must, but your internal clock may serve you best. After twenty minutes of deep undisturbed meditation your body is completely relaxed. Your mind is enjoying the deep peace of the stillness within you. The last thing you want to do is suddenly disturb your awesome peace with the harsh ringing of a typical household alarm clock. But, if you really feel need to keep track of your time, a specially designed timer for meditation could be effective to keep your mind free from fretting during your meditation sessions. An alternative that works for me is trusting my internal clock. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that if I set my intention to meditate for twenty minutes, my innate wisdom signals, within ten minutes, when my session is complete. If I forget to set my intention at the beginning of my session, then sometimes I go for an extra twenty minutes or so. If you do not use a timer, and you still do not trust your psychic intuition to guide you, then taking a quick and gentle peek at the clock is OK. Just gently maintain your peaceful state of mind while you glance at your clock. It is well worth your patience to practice tuning into your intuition until it works for you. Questions? Comments?
