Meditation Furniture for Comfort
From Top to Bottom

Specially designed meditation furniture supports your body mind and spirit. Your comfort from top to bottom during meditation is important.

During meditation your body completely relaxes, releasing tension but also relaxing muscles that support your limbs and your neck.

When your head is no longer supported by your neck muscles, it tends to droop forward. Unless I support my head it falls too far forward, bringing me out of my deep meditation. The strain on the neck causes discomfort after meditation.

Your body's metabolism slows down and you may begin to feel chilly.

Your bottom may also feel uncomfortable from sitting too long.

So here are some tips about meditation furniture and supplies to make you comfortable from your top to your bottom.

Your neck... Using a neck pillow during meditation prevents your head from falling back or forward and protects your neck from being overly stretched resulting in discomfort or pain.

Another simple solution that works very well to support your head is to tie the arms of a heavy sweater, or jersey, around your neck with the knot right under your chin.

Your body...Meditation robes are worn during some traditional types of meditation. Mostly for ceremonial reasons, but perhaps also to keep the body warm in colder climates.

As an Ishaya ascender in Canada, I always arrive at regular ascension meetings with my pillow and blanket in tow. Keeping warm helps me to maintain my focus inward, rather than outward on my body's discomfort.

Your bottom...Meditation cushions are a source of great relief for many bottoms. The cushions come in a variety of sizes and firmness. With a comfortable cushion placed on the floor against a wall, providing good support for your straight back, your meditation sessions will be more enjoyable.

Meditation chairs are specifically designed to help you maintain your straight back, while softening the effects of long periods of meditation.

Meditation benches of varying heights make it easier for those who find sitting with crossed legs painful. You can even find them with cushions.
