Please Excuse Our Renovations

It's your choice; the high road of a fulfilling balanced life; or, the low road of discontent, stress, fear and depression.

What do you choose?

Too many choices, or not enough choices, both indicate that you have given over your power to external forces. In this fast paced world of today, with increasing demands on your personal and business life, does it often feel like you're spinning out of control?

Then why not take the high road and slow down to an even keel? Develop the skill of maintaining a satisfying and fulfilling balanced life. Put yourself in the driver's seat and take control of your life.

Where to start…

You can begin by understanding that balance is not a point of arrival. It is a fleeting experience that you create while you move toward your destination. Life is constantly flowing. To keep afloat while steering your course you must constantly make adjustments and corrections.

balancing skier

Consider the balancing skills required by a downhill slalom skier. While weaving her way down the obstacle course, she must consciously and consistently maintain her balance to avoid crashing into the gates, or taking a tumble.

Try this exercise to experience balance in motion.

Stand on one foot for as long as you can. Notice the tiny little movements being made by all 33 of the muscles in your foot. Where is your awareness?

Now, while standing on one foot, move your attention away from your foot to an object a few feet away from you. Turn your head slightly to get a better view. How did that slight distraction affect your ability to remain balanced?

Life is like that - constantly changing and presenting distractions. Your success in maintaining a balanced life depends on your ability to remain alert, stay consciously aware in the present moment and make choices that serve you.

Let's consider this case scenario…

Here is a common problem that creates havoc in the lives of many families.

Your finances are stretched to the limit. You spend more time taking care of business than quality time with your family. They want to see more of you.

When you say YES to your boss's request for overtime, you are also saying NO to spending more time with your family.

Or, if you are self-employed, you are saying YES to your business, which has become your new boss. Regardless, you are still saying NO to your family.

The consequences of this behavior could be dismal, to say the least.

What do you value most, your business or your family?

You may think that your family comes first; why else would you work such long hours to financially support them? Think again.

Who is the driver here? Obviously, in this case scenario, the driver is your boss/business.

That can't feel very satisfying? What could you do to empower yourself, take charge of your life and bring those two aspects of your life into more balance?

To get different results, you must change the way you think.

Remember, when you say YES to your business, you are saying NO to your loved ones, including yourself and your highest and best interests.

Learn how to say NO

The inability to say NO blocks successful achievement of a balanced life. What are your emotional blocks? Ask yourself;

  • What's my payoff for saying YES when I want to say NO?
  • What am I afraid of if I say NO?
  • What's the worst than can happen if I say NO?
  • What am I saying YES to when I say NO?

Your answers to these questions may reveal fears that you have been unaware of. Most people who find it difficult to ask for what they want, are living unconsciously in fear. They are being driven by their internal programming, or in other words, by their ego's negative self talk, that supports ideas of lack.

You are not your negative thoughts,
nor do you have to give over your power to them.

Good communication skills…

Living a balanced life also requires excellent communication skills. In the scenario above, negotiation between the partners could save their relationship. Communicating from integrity, without blaming others, allows for open communication and resolution.

How balanced is your life?

This Wheel of Life exercise will show you areas of your life that you have been saying YES to at the expense of others.

If you find that you too many choices, try this easy exercise at making good choices intuitively. It is my experience that if I get myself out of the way and allow my inner wisdom to guide me, my life flows easily. This exercise will help you to move forward, one step at a time, and restore balance into your life.

You deserve it...

It is your birthright to enjoy the rewards of a satisfying and fulfilling balanced life. Take back your power, get in the driver's seat and enjoy peaceful easy living in the present moment.

Asking for help...

Sometimes it's easier and more fun to play with these exercises with a friend. Consider asking for help as a way of saying YES to your personal growth.

Or, I would be delighted to guide you through the exercises. It could be a win/win for us both. I would appreciate your feedback about this website, and for that I would be happy to offer you one hour of FREE coaching.

Your comments, questions and feedback are important to me, so please keep in touch at Contact Brenda.
